Last season was hell - Morata

September 06, 2018

Spanish striker Alvaro Morata admitted that he thought about leaving Chelsea before the end of the transfer window.

The striker said he considered a return to Spain, where he represented Real Madrid, or Italy, where he spent time with Juventus.

Morata joined Chelsea from Real Madrid last season but grew frustrated with his playing time ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

"Last year, I wasn't happy. I started well but at the end it was a disaster," Morata said.

After a positive start to his Chelsea career, Morata struggled with form and injuries and was soon dropped to the bench. The striker only scored one Premier League goal in 2018 last season.

"I went out to the pitch and didn't even know where I was. I considered returning to Spain or Italy," said Morata. "But you can't always escape reality. I left Spain to earn a place at the World Cup and I did not go. It was hard. I'm going to do everything I can to go to the next one, it was a difficult time because I expected to go."
