Boyz get Gordon!
Merron Gordon will take charge of the Reggae Boyz for their upcoming tournament in Austria from August 20-26.
It is a promotion for Gordon, who has been the Reggae Boyz' assistant coach since July last year when the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) replaced Jerome Waite with him.
In Austria, Gordon will have Vassell Reynolds as his assistant during the tournament when the Reggae Boyz play Morocco, Qatar and Ghana on August 20, 23 and 26, respectively.
Gordon is replacing former Reggae Boy Paul Hall for the tournament. Hall has been in contract negotiations with JFF, but the parties have not signed an agreement.
In a story published in The Gleaner on August 1, JFF's technical committee chairman, Rudolph Speid, stated that Hall had commitments in England, which would prevent him from travelling to Austria for the tournament. Speid said the Austrian tournament is not taking place in a FIFA window and Hall is needed by English Championship club Queen's Park Rangers. Hall has a coaching contract with the club.
Efforts to contact JFF president Michael Ricketts were unsuccessful as his phone rang without an answer.
