Jackson heads 12 Jamaicans for Brussels Diamond League meet

World 200 metres champion Shericka Jackson will be one of 12 Jamaicans who will be in action Memorial Van Damme Diamond League Meet in Brussels, Belgium, tomorrow and Friday.

Jackson, who has qualified for both the 100 and 200m at the Diamond League finals in Eugene on September 16 and 17, will face Daryll Neita of Great Britain and Anthonique Strachan of The Bahamas in the 200m at the Brussels meet.

Following her season's best 10.92 seconds in the 100m in Switzerland on Monday, Olympic champion Elaine Thompson Herah will be hoping to go faster when she contests the same event in Brussels. Two other Jamaicans, Shashalee Forbes and Natasha Morrison, will also be in the event, along with Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain, Tamara Clarke of the United States and New Zealand's Zoe Hobbs.

The trio of Rushell Clayton, the World Championships bronze medallist, Janieve Russell and Andrenette Knight will renew battle in the women's 400m hurdles. World Championships gold medallist Femke Bol of the Netherlands, fresh off her win in Switzerland on Monday, is again expected to dominate the event.

An improved Candice McLeod, who finished second at the Xiamen Diamond League in China with a season's best 50.19 seconds, will be hoping to go faster when she contests the women's 400m. World Championships bronze medallist Sade Williams of Barbados, Lieke Klaver of the Netherlands and 400m hurdles specialist, Shamier Little of the United States, who have all gone sub-50 seconds this season, should make it a very competitive affair.

Triple jumpers Shanieka Ricketts and Kimberly Williams, who were finalists in the event at the World Championships, will be the final set of Jamaican females to compete at the meet. Maryna Romanchuk of Ukraine, who won silver in Budapest, and Thea Lafond of the Dominica will also contest the event.

Rusheen McDonald, Jamaica's fastest man this season in the 400m with 44.03, will be the lone Jamaican male in action at the meet. He will contest the one-lap event where his main rival will be Matthew Hudson-Smith of Great Britain, the World Championships silver medallist.

World Championships shot put finalist Danniel Thomas-Dodd will be the first Jamaican to see action at the meet. She will compete in the shot put final on tomorrow's opening day of the meet.
