Young people must not rush into having sex

February 08, 2017

Dear Pastor,

May God continue to bless you. You have been counselling on many subjects and giving encouragement to those who need it.

I enjoy reading your column in the THE STAR. I am a mother of two children. Both of my children are male adults. I have three grandchildren.

Pastor, I would like you to remind young girls and boys that it's not OK or cool to rush into having sex. They should first love God, then love themselves.

They should have confidence in themselves, then go from there. Also, remind young women that even if they are on the pill or any other type of contraceptives, they should protect themselves from sexually transmitted infections.

Pastor, thank you for reading my letter. I would appreciate hearing from you. Keep up the great work you are doing.

Here is a poem I wrote:

My temple,

My body is my temple. It consists of my mind, my heart and my soul that needs to be nurtured, loved, cherished, and protected.

Please do not touch me. If I say no, it means no. This is my temple and it belongs to me.

It is not right for anyone to verbally, emotionally or physically abuse me. My body is a very special jewel that is to be cherished throughout my lifetime. My temple, my mind, my body and soul that was created whole.

Dear M.B.,

I hope young people would take your suggestions. Evidently, you are very concerned about how young people conduct themselves.

I wish you well. Thanks for your poem. May all who read it find it inspiring.
