Christian daughter wants to go to a hotel with her boyfriend

February 17, 2017

Dear Pastor,

Greetings to you. I want to commend you on the excellent work you're doing. I anxiously await THE STAR newspaper to be refreshed in the morning so I can read what you have to say about the issues you always have the answers to.

I am the mother of a 19-year-old daughter currently doing her second year in college. She got baptised at the age of 17. I have admired how she loves the Lord and is growing stronger day after day. My issue is that she is dating, and recently she won an all-inclusive weekend to a resort in Ochi Rios.

The young man lives in America and will be here in April for his birthday. Now, my daughter is telling me that she will be using the trip she won for his birthday gift.

Pastor, I trust my daughter and I trust the young man. He is a decent young man and I admire him. I know they are adults, but I have a problem with them being young, unmarried Christians away in an environment of that sort.

From a mother's point of view, pastor, they are still in the early stages of courtship. So, that is a huge jump. To me, that's like walking into temptation then asking God to intervene. Tell me what you think, pastor. She reads your column every day. I eagerly await your advice, as I can't seem to get through to her.

Eager Mother

Dear Eager Mother,

You have a right to be concerned about your daughter and her going to an all-inclusive resort with a gentleman. There is no way that I could encourage her to trust herself and for this guy to believe that he can trust himself, and that no sexual contact would take place during that weekend when they are together. On the other hand, you cannot be sure that your daughter is not looking forward to having good sex with this young man.

He is her boyfriend and both of them would have discussed what they would do together at the resort. Perhaps your daughter is a virgin and she is planning to give up her virginity during that weekend. Some young people believe that after they are 18, they can do anything. However, if her Christian testimony means anything to her at all, she should not go with this man for a weekend to celebrate his birthday.
