Should Christians eat pork?

September 25, 2017

Dear Pastor,

I want to ask you a question that has been confusing me for a while now, especially when I get told different things each time. Does the Bible forbid Christians from eating pork?

I've seen Christians eating it. Some people say it depends on the type of pork. Are Christians allowed to eat pork and does the Bible really condemn eating it?

Thank you.

C.C.

Dear C.C.,

The Old Testament gave some dietary laws which the children of Israel were to follow. You may find them in the Book of Leviticus, Chapter 11, the eating of pork was forbidden because of health reasons.

However, these religious laws and prohibitions were brought to an end at the coming of Jesus Christ. Jesus declared that all foods are good for human consumption.

And the Apostle Paul says, "For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the Word of God and prayer." (1 Timothy 4:4)

I say to you, therefore, enjoy your pork. It is good meat.
