Preach against the fornicators

September 07, 2018

Dear Pastor,

Some weeks ago, I saved a 'Tell Me Pastor' clipping from THE STAR of July 11, 2018.

A woman was concerned that her boyfriend didn't want her son to live with them.

I wondered why you did not tell the woman what Christ would have told her - that living with a man outside of marriage is fornication, and we are told to "flee fornication"?

The passage I am referring to is "Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body." That is from 1st Corinthians 6:18. There are many similar teachings in the Bible.

I have been working and teaching the Bible in Jamaica for the past 31 years, and this problem is something myself and the others with me deal with all the time.

The birth rate of more than 80 per cent among the unwed is a blight on the nation, as it is proven to produce crime and poverty.

Why is more not done to teach and uphold moral principles? That will not only be good for families and the nation, but it will help souls go to Heaven.

Just wondering what are your views on this. I would like to hear from you.

D.T.

Dear D.T.,

You are concerned that I did not tell this woman that by living with this man outside of wedlock, she is committing fornication.

You are disappointed in my answer. But, I am also disappointed in you. The woman was concerned about her son who is rejected by this man.

He does not want the son to live with them. I was addressing her concern. She wants her son to live at the same place where she is living.

Evidently, you don't believe that is important, but that is why she wrote to me. What should she do? That issue is what I addressed.

I am not telling you that it is right for people to live together in concubinage. But, I am not prepared to condemn anyone who does so, and I would beg of you not to condemn such couples either.
