My man has two other girlfriends

January 30, 2019

Dear Pastor,

I am 16 years old, and I am in high school. I have a boyfriend. I love him very much. He is 26 years old, and he takes care of me. My mother knows him. All my sisters, except one, have boyfriends. Even my mother has a man, and we all know him. Sometimes she leaves the house and is gone for days. She says she doesn't have children to follow her and we are big, so we must take care of ourselves.

My boyfriend doesn't hide anything from me. I know he has two other girlfriends, but they don't know anything about me. He told me he cannot keep one woman. I told him that I am going to keep another man with him. He thinks I am joking. Sometimes when I want him, I can't see him because he is at home with his children's mother and he turns off his phone.

I know you are going to say that I should concentrate on my lesson, but I am doing well in school. If I don't keep a man, I won't be able to go to school or eat because my mother doesn't have it and my father doesn't support me.

Initial Withheld

Dear ......

You say I am going to tell you to concentrate on your lessons. Although you don't want to hear that from me, I still have to tell you. Unless you do well, pass your exams and get a skill or a good education, you are going to always have to depend on men and you are going to have to change a number of them by the time you get to middle age.

The guy who you have as your boyfriend right now has other women and he has children. He told you he cannot keep one woman. He is likely to use you and dump you, so to speak, after a while. He may even get you pregnant. So, don't be proud of running around with him. Get yourself an education, and try to get a part-time job to help you support yourself. And if you insist that you must have sex, please have the man use a condom.
