Should I get married to live longer?

July 25, 2019

Dear Pastor,

I have been hearing that according to surveys, married women live longer than single women. Is that true? And why is that so?

I am 30 years old and I have never been married, but I am living with a man. So, does that mean that if you are not married, but living with a man, you are likely to live just as long as married women?

Dear F.J.,

Some surveys have shown that married women live longer, but there are surveys that have shown that unmarried women live longer.

I do not think you should be bothered about who would live longer. It is said that married men live longer than single men.

It seems to me that one should not be worried about the longevity of life but, instead, be concerned about the quality of life that one may live.

So, I urge you to take care of yourself, eat well, exercise, have fun, and get enough sleep.
