AT TIME OF writing, DJ Moses 'Beenie Man' Davis seems to be out of mortal danger. He has been hurt, but it does not seem it is time to put out a memorial album just yet.
One has only to take a look at a picture of the vehicle he was driving to see that it was a heck of an impact. For a vehicle like the one he was driving, a Hummer which is the civilian version of the US military is relying on in Iraq right now, to be as damaged as this one is, it must make us wonder.
That said, though, we are certainly happy that he is alive and battered, but well.
What this crash raises though, is the issue of large vehicles on the road. Sure, there are very few persons who would be so cash-strapped and bold as to drive a Hummer in Jamaica, but there are Escalades, F150s, Pajeros and other monstrous rides aplenty. And they tend to drive very fast and sometimes loose. Persons who drive smaller vehicles had better watch out.
Looking at the picture of that hunk of metal that was once a Hummer brings to mind a horrible thought. Just suppose that vehicle had careened into a car, say a Toyota Corolla? There would have been some very hurt people in that car - most likely fatal.
Those who drive those large vehicles need to consider those smaller ones on the road when they are whizzing around. Maybe next time there is an accident of Beenie Man proportions we will have fatalities, not injuries.
And it won't be the driver of the large vehicle.
