By ANTHONY FOSTER, Freelance WriterLEFT-HANDED JAMAICAN batsman Shawn Findlay has been drafted into the West Indies 'B' squad for their third round match against Leeward Islands in Nevis, starting next Friday.
Findlay, a 20-year-old hard-hitting batsman, was early named in Jamaica's 'protected' 16-man squad for the tournament, however, chairman of Jamaica's selection panel said it's best for the young player to have some regular action in the middle.
"I made the suggestion to get him involved in first class cricket," Williams said. "I spoke with West Indies B team manager Lyndel Wright (also a Jamaica selector), and I asked Jamaica Cricket Association's CEO Brian Breese to get in touch with the WICB," this he said about Findlay's inclusion.
"It is good to spread the players around so that they can play first class cricket," Williams concluded.
West Indies selectors were not allowed to pick Findlay, this as he was named among Jamaica's protected players.
Findlay will join fellow Jamaicans, fast bowler Dwight Washington and Danza Hyatt, in the West Indies B party.
The West Indies selection panel has named Austin Richards of Leeward Islands, Barbados' Patrick Brown and Ryan Austin among the four replacements for Young West Indies players who leave shortly for the World Youth Cup in Bangladesh.
The four players will replace present Young West Indies captain Dinesh Ramdin, Lendl Simmons, Assad Fudadin and Mervin Matthew.
Meanwhile, the West Indies selectors have named Jason Haynes to take over the reigns from Ramdin as captain. Fast bowler Jason Bennett will be Haynes' deputy.
West Indies 'B' fresh from their win over the visiting Kenyans will be looking to put in a good performance against Trinidad in round 2 this weekend.
