Ele crashes He and mom receive minor injuries

By GERMAINE SMITH, Staff Reporter

THREE DAYS AFTER fellow dancehall colleague Beenie Man totalled his Hummer motor truck, deejay Elephant Man is thanking his lucky stars after meeting in an accident himself.

THE STAR has learnt that Elephant Man's 1999 BMW convertible collided with another vehicle on Saturday afternoon along Barbican Road in Kingston. The accident left the right side of his car damaged, and minor injuries to both he and his mother, who was a passenger at the time.

The extent of his accident was not as severe as Beenie Man's however, but Elephant Man was a bit shaken up about it. He escaped with minor bruises and a slight sprain of his right foot, but yesterday he told THE STAR he was fine.

Careless cyclist

According to him, the accident was caused because of a careless cyclist and it could have gone another way.

"Mi come up pon a bicycle man who was dilly dollying inna the road. When me reach up to him him dolly suddenly inna my way so mi haffi take it (the car) out from him and stop pon my line," Ele explained.

"When me hold it pon my line now, the other car a come down the road couldn't get fi dolly outa the way, so we lick up."

His convertible is a left-hand drive vehicle, so his mother who was on the passenger side and saw that her side of the vehicle was about to be hit, jumped over to Ele's side to avoid serious injury.

"She alright now, but she inna some pain right now. Is a good thing she see and move because the whole of the glass and right side mash up," Elephant Man stated.

He told THE STAR that the car he collided with was a Honda driven by a woman. She, he said, ended up with broken glass splattered all over her face.

While he was happy it did not turn out more seriously, he was angry at the cyclist who hurriedly rode away without saying anything. "Him no seh nutten to nobody, and a save mi a save him life why we crash. Mi just glad seh mi never lick him down and him dead, that woulda more serious."

Even in his bruised state, Elephant Man offered advice to his colleagues. "Right now mi waa the artiste dem just tek time and drive, and just open unnu eyes pon the road. Yu done see wha happen to Beenie Man, the whole a we feel it. Just careful," he advised.
