Students, no more excuses
THE EDITOR, Madam: I read with a mixture of interest and amusement the announcement from the Jamaica Council of Students with a membership of 150,000. Nowhere is there is any mention of what is the business they are engaged in which is to prepare themselves firstly for passing the imminent examinations. What would be of more interest to the taxpaying public is if these students were to make a declaration to do better in their CXC exams. After all, a school is not a democracy; children go there to learn what has been taught by teachers set in authority over them. Students should understand that there are no good teachers, only efficient students. If these students in the JSC are more concerned with their rights then what time do they have to discharge their responsibilities to themselves and the society which gauges them by their examinational success. Jamaican students are at the bottom of the barrel, according to CXC reports. Let them pull up their socks, don't blame teachers. The material is there, go find it. Many of us, disadvantaged in Grammar School days, did just that. I am etc, MIDDLETON WILSON mwilson530359391@aol.com Miami, Florida 'Via Go-Jamaica'
