Jamaica should take advantage of the Mad Cow scare Dear
By ROY SANFORD, Staff ReporterWESTERN BUREAU WINSTON DEAR, PRESIDENT of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industries, suggests Jamaica should take full advantage of the Mad Cow disease scare in the United States and promote the consumption of local beef. The scare of the disease occurred after a cow at a Washington state dairy farm was found to have had the brain wasting disease. It was the first known case of the disease in the United States. According to Mr. Dear Jamaica is presently free from the disease and the island should exploit this opportunity. "We should take advantage of what is going on in the north with Mad Cow Disease going rampant there," he said during a speech at Sandals Montego Bay's third quarterly staff awards last week. "Jamaica is free from that, so we now have to sell our products. We must buy Jamaican meat free of Mad Cow Disease."
