Asssssin signs with VP/Atlantic Records
WITH SEVERAL OF his dancehall mates signing with foreign labels, deejay Assassin has added his name to the list. Assassin, who is presently with local-based Penthouse Records reportedly signed a deal for three albums with VP/Atlantic Records recently. The contract was made possible by his manager, Donovan Germaine of Penthouse, and VP Records boss Chris Chin. This signing comes only three years after Assassin started his tenure under the Penthouse brand, the label which helped groom the likes of Buju Banton, Wayne Wonder, and several of Jamaica's most longstanding artistes. Assassin began writing tunes from his days as a student of Camperdown High. It is said that while in fifth form, he wrote a song for Spragga Benz, who then brought it to Germaine. "I encouraged him to finish his high school education and he went on to sixth form. After he was finished with school, I started to work with him," stated Germaine. Presently he has several tunes riding local sharts, and he has constantly been a feature on local stage shows. At his last major local show, Sting, Assassin gave a credible account of himself. Even when other artistes raced through their performances to avoid crowd hostility, the deejay remained confident and did a complete and confident set. According to Germaine, Assassin has all the right dancehall attributes to see him become a "major success."
