Dear Pastor,
I am involved with a man that is in a wealthy position. We were social friends for five years before we became involved. The problem I am having is that I do not believe he loves me. I keep telling him that the only reason he sticks around is because the sex is good.
I have been hurt so many times that I am afraid of falling in love or trusting any other man. I was involved with a guy who left for the States and never even bothered to call me. When I finally called him, another woman answered his phone.
As a child growing up, I was also molested by my male family members a lot of times. Do you believe I should loosen up and give this guy a chance? My friends keep telling me that he likes me but I don't believe them either. He even went as far as to introduce himself to my mom and told her that he cares about me a lot. He calls me at least five times per day to make sure that I am alright.
I am a single mother who works and studies. I can hardly make ends meet for myself. He has never once tried to help me financially. Do you think I should ask him for his assistance or should I be patient and wait until he makes the move?
I am looking forward for your advice.

Dear Hurt & Confused,
I find it difficult to believe that you are having problems trusting this man. After all, both of you have known each other for five years. You would have talked to him a lot and both of you would have shared thoughts together. Isn't that why after you believed you understood him and knew him well, that you found it easy to become intimate with him?
The days of playing around are over. It is time for you to settle down. This man looks at you as someone who is independent. Perhaps that is the reason why he has not offered you any financial assistance. On the other hand, he could be sending you a message.
Do you think that message means he is mean? Well, I don't know. What I do know is that you have to talk to this man straight and let him know that you are not willing to play around and if he means you any good at all, both of you should get married.
My prayer is that God will help you to put your past behind you.
Pastor.
