UTech's final fete: Hot women, no vibes

By TEINO EVANS, Staff Reporter

FOR MANY PERSONS, the idea of having a final fete at the end of the long and stressful examination period is always something to look forward to.

However, this year, despite eventually having a huge turnout, some patrons who turned out for the UTech final fete may have been a little disappointed.

"Yow di vibes dis year nuh really deh deh, nothing much to talk about," was the comment from one patron who is a final year student at the university.

The event was dubbed UTech's Appleton "Mixology Final Fete", held at the University of Technology's Student Activity Centre.

The gates were opened from 9 p.m., however, as usual, at some minutes to 12, the majority of persons were still lurking on the outside, despite the incentive of free liquor before 11 p.m.

As the party vibes picked up a bit, with music being provided by the Coppershot Disco, DJ Liquid, DJ Ice, Danga Zone and Johnny Kool, persons on the outside began to filter in.

Patrons were given a mix of musical genres, as the selectors spun hip-hop and dancehall tunes in an effort to gain the crowd's approval. There were conscious dancehall tunes like Chuck Fender's I Swear, dancehall hardcore tunes like Vybz Kartel's Real Bad Man and hip hop's hot favourites like Usher's Yeah.

Ladies' night

But even with all this mixing, according to another patron, Tanya; "The hottest thing about the fete was the ladies." Most female patrons went all out to dazzle the eye. Clad in some really short, tight skirts, small, loose-fitting tops (sometimes exposing much cleavage) and tall spike heal shoes, the women who turned out to UTech's final fete never failed to impress.

Some patrons, however, who had lost the vibes to dance, resorted to drinking or sleeping the night away. One patron was observed stumbling over and falling to the ground, as he made attempts to dance in his drunken state. Other patrons were observed just sitting around on some benches, chatting or catching a midnight snooze.

At 3:45 a.m, patrons had a little scare, as a minor dispute broke out in the crowd, but the quick actions of the security forces on hand and the peace-talk issued over the microphone by the selector, had the matter under control in no time.

This, however, had put a little dent in the vibes of some patrons who started to make their way through the exits. The party went on until some minutes after four in the morning, before the selectors decided to bring the session to an end.
