SEX SELLS. THIS has been the case practically since the dawn of time and should come as a surprise to no one really. After all, there are varied ways to make a living and indeed it could be argued that most acts of sexual intercourse involve payment and that prostitutes are just more honest about the transactions - but that is a discussion for another day.
What THE STAR would like to advocate is that that those involved in the sex industry and those that partake in the pleasures of the same practice safe sex. A lifetime of AIDS or another such disease is nowhere nearly worth a few minutes of carnal pleasure. Thinking that prostitutes will not exist or will stop selling their bodies is not only impractical, it is downright silly. As long as people want to have sex, there will be people willing to offer the same for a price.
Such customers should keep in mind that they could possibly be the fifth or 50th person to have slept with a prostitute on any given night, and they have absolutely no way of knowing the sexual health of anyone who went before them. So use a condom.
Jamaica has one of the highest of incidences of HIV/AIDS in the world, never mind the region, and the only way to combat this is by utilizing safer sex practices. Be smart - the life you save just might be your own.
