Elephant Man strikes gold

By TEINO EVANS, Staff Reporter

ELEPHANT MAN HAS taken Japan by storm, as his Good to Go album has sold gold in that country.

After a successful tour in Japan, coupled with several concert dates in association with the famed Mighty Crown sound system, the verdict was official, as it was announced last week that Ele's album had attained gold status. Yes, Japan loves the Elephant.

Gold status in Japan means the sales of 100,000 records, and is not a common feature for a recording artiste in the Far East country.

In the meantime, Ele's single Jook Gal is currently enjoying substantial success on the hot R&B/Hip Hop Singles chart, rising to the number 20 position this week.

Turning up the energy

The 'Energy God' is also set to intensify the energy level, as he has two big collaborations lined up.

He is poised for a new promotional push through his collaboration with Janet Jackson on their upcoming single, All Night (Don't Stop), which will act as an urban remix for the track currently impacting on radio and video channels.

According to local VP representative Yolan Zanders, Virgin Records is currently considering producing another video for the track along with the 'Energy God', however, they are waiting to see its reaction on radio before making a final decision.

Willie Daniels, Elephant's A&R Representative at VP Records added that "this is the kind of collaboration that turns heads, he has already proven himself in the urban market, but this kind of collaboration really makes an impact in the pop world and people in the mainstream are starting to take notice."

Also in the mix is another collaboration with mega-star Will Smith, which is set to happen some time this week.

The deejay has also had some international presence with the Puma television ad campaigns which use his track, All Out to advertise their support of The Jamaican Olympic team.

Elephant Man's manager Q45 said that they had been working for the past couple of years to reach where they are today. "I feel good about this and I am proud of what we have accomplished," he said.
