THESE DAYS IT seems that everything is not in order in the 'One Order' gang.
Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that infighting is putting a strain on relations within the gang with things coming to a head after Monday night's murder of alleged gang leader Oliver 'Bubba' Smith.
Smith was shot dead off Whitehall Avenue, St. Andrew at about 7:30 p.m. and as news of his murder spread to Spanish Town One Order's home base gang members responded with a barrage of gunfire.
There were also reports that gang members issued instructions to business persons in Spanish Town to close their doors for two days of mourning.
In the meantime, allegations and rumours are swirling within the gang, with some gang members pointing the finger at those within the group for the murder of their leader.
"Is one of we own kill Bubba, me know that," a member of the gang told THE WEEKEND STAR. "Who else woulda know weh him deh and what him a drive," said the gang member who requested that his name not be used.
"Then the ting bout him a turn off pon di lane, why him would a turn off if is not somebody him know stop him. Is one o' we do it and me nah stop till me find out a who," said the gang member.
The police have also theorised that differences within the gang caused Smith's death.
According to a release from the Constabulary Communication Network, (CCN):
"Police intelligence indicate that there is an ongoing feud in the One Order Gang resulting from members in the lower ranks complaining that the ill-got gains of the gang are not being distributed properly by the gang leader."
Another gang member gave a deeper insight into the problems within the gang. He told THE WEEKEND STAR that because of their notoriety the gang began to attract new members.
"Is like everybody want to be One Order, every man now a claim seh dem is a part of One Order, man a do tings and a call One Order name and suh it cause a problem. Because original foundation One Order man a seh certain fool cannot be a part of us."
He added that with the gang getting bigger, their earnings began to shrink. "Is money run the world and when a man see seh him cannot get as much as before, it cause a likkle vexation."
Then there were allegations that some of the new members of the gang were police informants; a claim which may have some merit in light of the number of reports the police are now issuing on the gang.
"Me nuh trust none of di new man dem. Too much a dem have too much police fren," said the gang member.
So does this mean the end of One Order? Not if the gang members can help it.
"Look, people who don't know we call we criminal. And maybe we do things that not legal, but Tawes Pen, Ellerslie Pen, Homestead, di whole a Spanish Town weh we control a run much better these days," he said.
"Since One Order, a man cannot rape and t'ief and do him wrongs again. Because police nuh business wid di ghetto, a we business wid di ghetto. A we set it right, suh we cannot afford to let the people down," he added.
