Saba taking a break from the front line

Saba - Contributed

WHERE HAS SABA been?

Nowhere, according to the deejay. He was just taking a break from dancehall front lines and meditating more on his work.

Saba, who struck the dancehall with tunes such as Hold The Faith, Girls Fi Get Loving with CéCile and Football Dance seems to have been laying low for a while.

According to Saba, everything has been fine, and he has been flexing his muscles more as a producer than as an artiste.

"Saba is one 100 per cent doing fine right now," he noted earlier this week. "Right now I have just been doing some new things to hit the streets with... I am coming with the love for this right now. I don't really back off the business yet, but was just holding some meditation for some true love."

Producing

Although he started producing on his Brimstone and Fire Label years ago, Saba added that his latest project should be a more notable one. He has secured the expertise of musicians 'Ibo' Cooper among others to produce the 'Movie Star' rhythm, and has so far recorded a few artistes on it.

To date he has recorded Leroy Sibblies, Machel Montano, Trinidadian artiste KMC, Princess Love, himself and a few other acts. Saba noted that the move to include other acts from the Caribbean is only natural due to the direction local music is headed.

"You can see the music reaching out to other nations and foreign artistes are reaching out to our artistes to do collaborations. That is good for the business. Me and Machel were talking and may be more prosperity will be there for Saba and Machel in the music."

Added to this, he has recorded tunes for Jamaica's national senior football team, a combination with Richie Spice, and other tracks for release soon.

According to Saba, getting to where he is today has not been easy, due to the set-up of dancehall music. "Some of the other artistes don't have good mind for other artistes," he stated. "The way it is if you don't join a group or join the wagon you will be left out...they should treat each other good and don't just be quick to judge you."

That aside, Saba noted that another of his priorities is to bring peace to the Nannyville community from where he hails. "I am giving words sound and power. I want the people of Nannyville to just come together as one, cause we are the same people."
