Go with Palo Seco

By JIMMIE, Star Racing Writer

AMERICAN-bred PALO SECO should make no mistake down in class tomorrow afternoon, reporting on a $260,000 Claiming tag in the 1000-metre straight fourth race.

Trained by Percy Hussey, the four-year-old dark bay colt has been struggling to make the grade among Overnight Allowance horses since winning his second race in April of this year.

PALO SECO last raced on August 21, finishing last behind Saturday's winner BLACK THATCH at 1300 metres. However, the rangy colt was far from disgraced, never worse than nine lengths off the pace from start to finish, suggesting he might not be able to make the cut at Overnight Allowance but should certainly have the beating of $260,000 Claimers.

Charles Hussey will have the leg up aboard PALO SECO, who has already shown his worth over the straight course, finishing a close-up fourth to stablemate HEDIA'S PROSPECT on debut last year before being outfinished at the distance by FOURPOINTNINE, allowing his fellow American-bred six kilos.

Charlie's presence suggests PALO SECO is okay but Percy seems to be getting impatient and would rather concentrate on younger and more promising talent such as two-year-old local-bred debutant SELECTED VIEW in the Winnie Anglin Memorial seventh race at 1000 metres round.

The Husseys haven't been gunning SELECTED VIEW at exercise but the railbirds claim she's a classy one and got a glimpse yesterday morning when she left QUEEN AIR for dead in a three-furlong gallop out of the straight.

Jackpots at $1m

All of $6m in carryovers was shared by just three punters last Saturday. There was one lucky Pick-9 winner, who bagged $4,930,945.50 for his efforts including spotting 27-1 outsider DOUBLE BUCK in the nightpan.

The Super-6 also went, with two winning tickets each worth $630,408, returning both jackpots to their respective $500,000 guaranteed jackpots tomorrow.

Sound bankers tomorrow are TOTAL MOTION in the 1200-metre Royal Crest Trophy and down-in-class SIR ABBAS MANGAL at 1400 metres in the sixth race. SIR ABBAS MANGAL found only out-of-class PROCEEDACCORDINGLY too good last time out and should now go one better.

Track Price Plus Pick-6 players can round off their bets with THE BARBARIAN at 1000 metres straight in the eighth race for top level claimers and the debutant ROYAL COMMAND in the 1000-metre round 10th race.

THE BARBARIAN ran a big race up in class with 55.0 kilos, beaten into fifth behind KING AL on the round course. Reporting with 54.0 kilos due to appentice Howard newell's three-kilo claim, the speedy bay gelding is perfectly drawn to make every yard of the running under the stands' side.

Richard Azan definitely has the most impressive two-year-old in training and the debutant ROYAL COMMAND should join that brigade with a win in the 11th for the Stewards' Cup at 1000 metres round.
