So Lara is a selector now?

JACKASS SEY DI worl' no level. Jackass sey who is dis BC Lara fi come chat bout Gayle fucha West Indies captin?

So that BC Lara is at it again, pushing his mouth where it is not needed or, more importantly, wanted. In the aftermath of the unexpected ICC limited overs championship win, he declared Chris Gayle as a future West Indies team leader.

Whether this is so or not is not the point. That BC Lara has absolutely no business in trying to influence the succession of captaincy that will follow his imminent, not a minute too soon, departure. It is not a regal line, where the heirs and successors to the throne are decided by blood or edict; the selectors and the team's management decide on a captain, not the outgoing one.

For Mr. Fine of Voice and Selfish of Interests to toss out Gayle's name is irresponsible and downright out of order.

Jackass is happy that in the wake of the 'gayle' of a statement the Jamaican cricket authorities issued a statement saying that Gareth Breese is still captain, but the fact is that they should not have felt pressed to do so. That statement was issued because the natural steps for Gayle to the West Indies captaincy would be through the Jamaican regional team captaincy and then a West Indies vice-captain's posting.

What makes it worse is that it is not as if there is not already a vice-captain, in Ramnaresh Sarwan. A steady head, a cool head, a reliable person, still young but well experienced, with a wonderful future ahead of him. What is it now? That BC Lara does not consider him the person for the job? Is he too quiet and calm - and would actually lead the West Indies to some series wins and not the whitewashes that Lara and his wreck of a captaincy have run us into?

Hell, if we had any more whitewashes under Lara, you could starch us.

What makes the matter even more unlevel is that Lara was a petulant little boy under Courtney Walsh's brief turn at the helm. He wanted the leadership role so badly - and what has he done with it? The only supposed leader with a worse record than Lara is Eddie Seaga.

Add to this is Lara's selfishness. The 400 Test batting record mark is all well and good for him, but we did not win the match or the series. Then he was injured shortly after - so badly that he could not play, but not so badly that he could not play golf.

No, it is high time we see the back of this BC Lara, big mouth, fine voice and all 4 feet 11 inches of him.

What also irks is that the star mentality is so strong, when the time for him to get the hell out of here (he should not have been taken back after deserting the team in the first place) some germalist or the other is going to pick up on the statement and call for Chris Gayle to be a leader of the Windies team.

Lara is not a selector. He is a petulant, selfish semi-boy an him fi guweh wid dat!

Jackass sey di worl' no level. Jackass sey how captin whe cyaan captin fi choose up nex' captin?
