SOME PEOPLE TALK about being dangerously in love with someone but the danger Mark Brown, a bouncer at a popular night club in Kingston, never bargained for was a death threat.
Brown says having met a young lady at work for only two weeks, he has since been shot and threatened by the father of her children who he claims is jealous of their relationship.
"I don't know why he did this, I don't do anything for him to shoot me," a distraught Brown told THE STAR.
According to Brown, since being released from the Spanish Town Hospital last week, he is scared that the man, who is a policeman, will kill him and so he has moved out of his rented house and is hiding.
The shooting occurred two Wednesdays ago when he went to take out his girlfriend from her home. When he arrived at her home another car was in the driveway and she was not yet ready. So, he waited outside in his car.
While Brown waited, his girlfriend's former lover came outside, looked at him, then left with another man.
Annoyed that his girlfriend was late Brown remained outside but then went inside to use the bathroom. As Brown and his girlfriend were leaving the house, his girlfriend's former lover returned.
"Him seh wi must go back inna di house cause him waan talk to wi," Brown said. He said however that his girlfriend said he should ignore him and they did.
At that point his girlfriend's former lover reportedly pulled a gun. Brown claims he spun around to avoid the bullet, however it went through his arm and into his lungs.
Brown's girlfriend started wrestling with her former lover as Brown said he ran from the house and down the street where he hid from his attacker who was hunting for him.
After being taken to hospital where he was admitted for six days, Brown said his ordeal did not end. In hospital he was visited by a police officer from the Director of Public Prosecutions office who said 11 rounds of ammunition were found in his car.
He told the officer he knew nothing about the ammunition and gave a statement. He said he was assured by the officer that it would be dealt with. But since then, Brown says he has not heard anything from the DPP officer. THE STAR was unable to speak with the DPP officer this week because he is on vacation. No other officers from the DPP were aware of the case.
But Brown has gone to a lawyer. THE STAR confirmed that the Haughton and Associates law firm is pursuing the case.
He added that although his girlfriend's former lover said he would kill both of them, neither has reported it to the police.
Brown said he cannot work as a result of the injury. He added that his girlfriend's former lover offered to settle the matter out of court two days ago, but he is not interested.
"I want justice to run its course because too much of these things are happening," he said.
