A lie!
WHEN A PUBLIC figure dies, it is always a shock, even if they are old and known to be ill.
When it is someone young and active and the death is by unnatural means, it is a stunner.
The death of Gerald 'Bogle' Levy is one such stunner. The dancer was shot at a gas station yesterday morning, ending the life and career of a man who has been in the public spotlight since the early 1990s when Buju Banton did Bogle.
Bogle, a natural, very talented dancer, kept the art of dance alive in the dancehall long before the current wave of moves. For years he was the only dancer 'out there' and for that he must get credit.
It will be very interesting to see what happens to the dance craze phenomenon in the aftermath of his murder.
Dancing apart, though, Bogle ran with a tough dancehall crowd and things have a way of happening around those crowds. We can only hope that there will not be a tit for tat or shot for shot, in the way that dancehall figures retaliate against each other on record. We hope that good sense prevails and an industry that makes fun does not make death.
