LIKE A NUMBER of artistes in the dancehall business, Macka Diamond has faced her share of opposition from other artistes.
Macka's main nemesis however is Queen Paula, whom at one point she was actually friends with.
The two however drifted apart, and traded words on record for much of 2003, climaxing with a spectacular on-stage clash at the Magnum Sting 2003. Queen Paula came out the winner, but Macka Diamond seems to have bounced back from the defeat, and harbours no ill will towards her lyrical rival.
"Where Paula is concerned, she said everything she had to say at Sting already," notes Macka. "So anything she said after that did not hurt me. Nothing mattered after that cause she let out everything that night in front of so many people."
Macka Diamond's view on the situation is that as female artistes she does not see it necessary to get involved in 'passa passa' with each other. She says that when the artistes have the attention of the public they need to write quality tunes.
"Differently, the female dem inna the business need fi drop some good lyrics when people start pay attention to them, yu caa go before people and do foolishness, because dem won't tolerate you. When you have their attention, do good."
