THE EDITOR, Madam:
This is just a short input regarding Mr. Seaga's last day in Parliament. It was an enlightening moment for me in Parliament to see both political parties share their thoughts about Mr. Seaga's demitance from politics.
Nobody verbally abused anybody; everybody was in a pensive mood. Both political sides were greeting Mr. Seaga in a nostalgic mood, but why not demonstrate this type of relationship at all times, so that whosoever is murdering their colleague over political mileage will come to self realisation and stop it? After 43 years of service in politics I guess his seat will, for a while, look like a big empty space.
I think some of those supporters from both parties should be counselled by politicians how to live. There should be some regular briefing for them on a monthly basis. Don't go about avenging people because of the party they are affiliated to. In my opinion this is wrong.
I would like the relevant authority to take some steps in this regard. Remember the youth. Don't let another generation grow up seeing this type of destructive behaviour. Remember the public is like your child. This is what I would love to see. Everybody join together as one political party and share ideas, let every politician have power.
This is the type of politics I would like to see when Mr. P.J Patterson demits office. Our island is too small to have tug and war parties. One of the biggest countries had their elections in mid last year and everybody was in a jovial mood, hugging and kissing. Why can't we demonstrate something similar? Make that change my brothers and sisters. It can work.
I am, etc.,
