JANET SPENCE, THE nurse charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice was granted bail when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's yesterday.
Spence, 35, was granted $300,000 bail when she appeared before Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle. Spence is charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice. The charges were brought against her after she reportedly offered a complainant in a rape case $500,000 to drop the case against her uncle who is a doctor.
Spence was granted $300,000 bail with one, two or three sureties. In addition, she was ordered to surrender her travel documents and a stop order was placed on her. As a condition for her bail, she is to report to the Matilda's Corner Police every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday between 8:00 am and 8:00 p.m.
She is to return to court on May 18, when her trial is scheduled to begin.
Allegations before the court are that Spence approached the complainant and asked her to drop the rape case against the doctor who is her uncle for $500,000. It is reported that she also called the complainant on her cell phone and asked her to drop the charges. Spence had reportedly gone to the police station to give a statement when the complainant pointed her out to the police. She was arrested and charged.
