THE DAY AFTER their amazing stint at the crease, the two West Indies double centurions were congratulated by proud sponsor of West Indies cricket, Digicel, with gold.
Team Captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Wavell Hinds, after knocks of 203 not out and 213 respectively, were presented with solid gold cricket bat pendants engraved with their remarkable scores.
In a presentation done by former West Indies great Lance Gibbs on behalf of Digicel, the two players were lauded for their achievements and their focus on the game.
"Digicel could not have imagined a bigger or better start to our first home series! We are so proud of both Shiv and Wavell that we felt we could not let something so special for these players and indeed the entire Caribbean pass without being acknowledged," said Digicel's Sponsorship Manager, Ms Marita Laurent who was in Guyana to witness the milestones.
Both players thanked the company for the gifts and were extremely pleased by the gesture.
"The thought and kindness that went into this gift from Digicel is very much appreciated," stated Wavell Hinds. "This is an achievement in my life I will remember forever and this gift has made it even more special," he concluded.
Chanderpaul was particularly thrilled as the milestone coincided with his debut as the captain of the West Indies Cricket Team. "This gift has made an already remarkable event even more so and I would like to thank Digicel for their thoughtfulness," Chanderpaul remarked.
