Leonard Wright - leighton williams
A SUIT HAS been filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of Leonard Wright who claims he was beaten so badly by two policemen in 2001 that he has carried an odour since then. Wright's story first appeared in THE STAR in June last year when it was reported that he was planning to sue the authorities after he was allegedly beaten by two policemen.
It is alleged that Wright was beaten by the two officers on two separate occasions in January and May 2001.
Settlement
At the time of when the story was first published, Marcus Goffe, the attorney representing Wright said they wrote to the Attorney-General's office seeking a settlement. He said that if no settlement was reached by the end of the month then they would have no alternative but to file the suit.
Beatings
Goffe recently said a suit was filed in the Supreme Court. However, a date for the proceedings to begin has not been set. Wright has contended that prior to the beatings he drove a bus which plied the downtown to Waterhouse route. He said as a result of the beatings he had suffered damage to his hip which caused him to walk with a crutch.
He added that a pin placed in his hip in a previous operation was dislocated and protruded through his skin causing an odour. In addition, he has also complained of headaches.
