Penny wise, pound foolish

Dear Pastor,

I am almost 17 year-old and I live in England. In 2003, I met and fell in love with a 23-year-old man while I was on holiday in Jamaica. We talk on the telephone all the time.

We are planning to get married after my birthday, which is coming up very soon.

Just before Christmas last year, he told me that he got a baby from another girl who lives in Jamaica. He said it was a mistake and he never meant for it to happen. He says he loves me and will do anything for me.

Does he love me?

I want to know if I am being taken for a fool because he wants to get a visa to come to England or does he really love me?

T.M., England

Dear T.M,

I wish you would concentrate on your lessons and forget this young man who is living in Jamaica. You are not ready for marriage. What you need is a good education so that you would not have to seek the financial support of men and that you would not have to use your body to get money to meet your daily needs. Too many of you young girls allow yourselves to be fooled and used by men.

The young man in Jamaica is irresponsible and you should drop him like hot cake.
