By GERMAINE SMITH, Staff ReporterSELECTOR FIRELINKS IS spicing up his flagship street session 'Hot Mondays' again.
Now on the rebound for the third time, the bouncy selector has moved it to 50 Molynes Road and said this is the one that will make it, as he has turned it into much more than a street dance.
"We a basically search for some unknown talent weh people no know bout yet, and bus dem out to get exposure," he explained.
"It is a street session with talent show vibes mixed with it."
"I am into producing as yu know, so dem might get the chance fi voice on some of the other rhythm dem weh mi have fi come out."
Firelinks noted that the talent search aspect of Hot Mondays was not limited to deejays and singers, but anyone with any unique type of talent who wanted to show it off.
"Whatever talent yu have weh will make it in the dancehall. Whether it be singing or dancing, even poetry or selecting ability. If yu even a songwriter, yu can mek somebody perform fi yu," he explained.
Judging, he noted, will be done by a set of persons handpicked by firelinks who are somewhat involved in the music industry.
Hot Mondays was one of the earliest and most popular street dances when it kicked off in 2003. In fact, shortly afterwards, a host of other sessions popped up in different communities in Kingston.
Despite its fame however, Hot Mondays was shut down repeatedly due to pressure form the police. To date, it has moved from its original Hagley Park road base to Portmore, then to the Asylum Night club, and now, to Molynes road. Firelinks said he feels that this time he will remain there.
