RESIDENTS OF MILE Gully in Manchester and the surrounding communities are upset that the Cottage Police Station, which serves the area, is without a vehicle of its own.
The residents of the area said the station has been without its own vehicle for sometime now, but apart from a vehicle being loaned from another station, nothing has been done by the authorities.
That situation, however, may soon be a thing of the past. According to Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Lascelles Taylor of the Manchester Police division, that situation will soon be eased as Cottage Police Station will be receiving a vehicle in upcoming weeks.
"I've met with the citizens and reassured them that the problem will be solved. I've seen the vehicle they will be getting," he said.
Residents said the vehicle has been out of service for sometime now. They pointed out that the station has only one vehicle and it serves 53 districts.
"If anything happens then they can't really help us as they have just one vehicle. So if something happens here in Cottage, and something else happens in another district one of us will be in trouble," said one resident.
DSP Taylor said however, that this will be addressed soon.
"We are just waiting for the official handing over ceremony, but a vehicle, one of the new SUVs has been assigned to the station. I saw it myself with the name of the station written on it," he said.
He added that they would be meeting with residents again in upcoming weeks to address the situation.
