New missing persons database

IN AN EFFORT to improve its operations, the police are currently creating a missing persons database to replace the one currently at the National Intelligence Bureau.

According to the Constabulary Communications Network (CCN), the new database is expected to allow police to better keep track of missing people. "I was informed that information is being gathered. Someone goes everyday and collect the information," an officer at CCN told THE STAR.

The current system is a manual one and the data is usually held at the Intelligence Bureau. Another database is also kept by the CCN, however it is not as updated and organised as the one at the Bureau.

The new database is expected to be updated easily. While THE STAR was unable to find out when the database will be up and running it is expected to be functional before the end of the year.
