THE EDITOR,Madam:
We the citizens of Goffe Road, Glengoffe, St. Catherine and the adjoining communities such as Mount Industry and Cassava River district including the citizens of Mahoney, St. Andrew are deeply concerned about the deplorable condition of the main road leading to the above communities.
These roads have long been in a deplorable condition but have worsened since the passage of Hurricane Ivan. During the hurricane there was a lot of land slippage which caused the road to erode.
After the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan those in authority came to view and estimate the damage to the roads but until now nothing has been done.
The conditions of the roads are so terrible that they pose serious threats to commuters and especially children who use them daily.
What is the government waiting for to fix these roads? Are they waiting for a major accident to snuff out the lives of young children and the elderly? Do the citizens of the above communities pay taxes? What are they doing with taxpayers' money? Where is the hurricane relief fund? I believe that none of it has been directed to this section of the island.
We should not have to block the roads or do something drastic before getting the attention from those in authority. Therefore, the citizens of Glengoffe and the adjoining communities with the citizens of Mahoney are calling on the Member of Parliament for Northern Eastern St. Catherine Mr. Abe Dabdoub and also the Member of Parliament for Mahoney, St. Catherine Mr. John Myers to come to our aid before we have a catastrophe on our hands.
I am, etc.,
A CONCERNED CITIZEN
