SOME REGGAE FOOTAGE dating back almost 20 years was released last Tuesday by Reggae veteran Freddie McGregor.
The release features a handful of events within the era which were captured on camera, including images of Dennis Brown, Frankie Paul, Barrington Levy and other stars of the 1980s. It was done as an official DVD release from McGregor's Big Ship Label, and was taped at the stage show titled 'Super Stars Extravaganza,' held in May Pen Clarendon in 1989.
"In 1989 not many people were recording shows like that. We used three cameras professionally and it turned out real nicely," stated Freddie McGregor about the release.
In an environment where more industry people are becoming aware of the market value of Reggae and dancehall DVDs, McGregor stated that we should capture valuable Reggae moments and save them for years to come.
Loving people
"As it turned out there is footage that is not available anywhere now by some of those artistes. People like Frankie Paul back then, Dennis Brown, Barrington Levy, those in my mind is rare footage that we managed to capture, and that all music loving people should have."
"I can see 10 years down the road a lot of great concerts are going to be on videos...I think people are going to crave those things, cause that is the new move now, DVDs."
On the musical side, McGregor noted that another historic move would be made with his music later this year.
"I think I can safely say that this year belongs to me, and I am saying this without no fear, no bragging, no boasting," he noted.
"This year is Freddy McGregor's year, and the reason I can say this to you is that we have been programmed from last year for this one."
McGregor says he has an album due out on June 21 this year. It features combinations with Marcia Griffiths, Morgan Heritage and Anthony B among others and is produced by Bobby 'Digital' Dixon along with his 14-year old son Steven.
