Man charged with fraud

By STEPHANIE ELLIOTT, Star Writer

CLARENDON

JOEL JONES APPEARED in the May Pen RM court on April 18, to answer to a charge of fraudulent conversion and was remanded in custody and booked to reappear in court on May 5, when the matter will again be mentioned.

Allegations against Jones are that sometime this year, he attempted to obtain goods at Epic Hardware in Clarendon, with fraudulent hurricane relief cheques.

Workers there reportedly became suspicious of Jones after he was asked to produce valid identification and was unable to do so.

The May Pen police were summoned and the cheques taken to a bank to verify validity. It was then discovered that the cheques were fraudulent. He was then arrested and charged.
