Meeting Mom

THE EDITOR,

I am seeking your permission to use this section of THE STAR to find my beloved mother who I have never seen. I was born September 18, 1983 according to the Adoption Board, in Kingston but maybe my mother would have given birth to me some days earlier, no more than a day though. However the doctor at the Jubilee Hospital informed my adopted mother that I was just a day old.

On that particular day my birth mother went to Jubilee Hospital with the intention of giving me away. She was not allowed to go in the hospital with me as the act of abandoning young children was becoming prevalent and the hospital was taking all precaution to make sure it never happened again.

In the long run she saw my adopted mother and asked her if she could hold me while she went in to visit her uncle and come back. Hours passed and she did not return. I was taken to the nearest police station, which I believe would have been Central Police Station and a report was made of my neglect and at the request of the police officers, my adopted mother filed to adopt me.

Some time ago too, a lady came to my adopted mother and told her that she knew my mother, that was years ago when my mother was a teacher at Holy Family Primary School. Please I am pleading, if that person is still alive and knows where my mother is, I am asking you to get in touch with me.

I do not know the circumstances why my biological mother would give me away, but regardless of what it was, I would love to meet her and sit and have a talk with her. If you are worried that I will seek to avenge the situation, I will not. I have long forgiven you and it is just the need to know and see what you are like why I am using this medium to find you. I am appealing to anyone out there who might know of this story (she would not have gone through this alone, So mother if the reason was so you could keep an eye out for me, the eye is not working any more, I need to meet you. Please don't be afraid, all I need is the knowledge of who my mother is.
