THERE WAS A major red carpet line outside New Kingston's popular nightclub The Quad, for the second Annual Player's Ball - Pimps and Honey style, last Saturday night.
And many came dressed for the role they would play.
Ladies played the roles of 'honey' and there were few clad in sexy 'honey' costumes. Micro-mini skirts, short shorts, sequined tights and fish net stockings, hipsters jeans, and bikini tops showed curvaceous bodies and lots of cleavage.
As for men, 'big pimpin wasn't easy', and not many 'pimps' were spotted. One male 'pimp' was decked in a three-piece suit and a huge gold chain. Few boasted brightly coloured striped shirts, denim pants and shiny fedora hats with feathers stuck to the side.
Inside, the Voodoo Lounge was totally crammed with couples gyrating on the dance floor to the music of Judge and Twizh. Tunes, such as Trailer Load, Ting-a-Ling, Coulda Deal, Matey Free Paper Bun, Chalkboard, Tour and Heads High sent the partying crowd into a dancing frenzy.
Back in the Oxygen Nightclub, a more up-tempo vibe lured younger patrons to the dance floor as resident DJs Alric and Boyd served crowd favourite hip hop and dancehall tunes. Tunes, such as Hot in Here, Girl Fight, Yeah!, How We Do, Whisper, Hate it or Love it, Drop It Like it's Hot, Locked Up, New York and Ghetto had lighters blazing.
Dancehall tunes Ride Dis, Mixing Board, As a Man, Dude and Me Too Bad had females slowly gyrating, hoisting their buttocks in the air, while bumping and grinding to the beat with the men. There was a huge uproar of laughter when hit single Tuck In Yuh Belly started playing. Some females were seen jeering other female patrons with the sentiments of the song. "A weh yuh a go wid dat my girl? Tuck een yuh belly", one female patron jovially said to one of her friends waving her hands in the air. That was not the case for every female though as some 'big' women danced along reluctantly.
The Pimp of the Year Award went to Pimp Money Sean. This was his second year winning the trophy. There really was no competition as the other pimps posed no significant threat to his title. There were no challengers, and the other party pimps were just too regular.
Alric and Boyd kept the music pumping throughout the night, switching to a few cultural tunes near the end. Songs like Serious Time, That Day Will Come, Lonely Girl, Footprints and Got to be Strong ushered many home even as others steadily streamed in to get the last of the party, 'Pimps and Honeys' style.
