A TAXI MAN'S attempt to recover money he had paid to the National Taxi Operators' Association (NATO) to get a taxi road license, is taking the association to court to recover his money.
Kirk Thompson, the taxi driver says he gave Egerton Newman, NATO's general secretary, $10,000 to acquire the road license in early May. However, he says he later changed his mind about the process and requested his money.
Thompson claimed he asked Newman for the money and was told that $2,000 had been used for administrative purposes and so he could only get back $8,000.
Thompson said he agreed to accept the balance but more than a month later, he is yet to receive it. "A pure story him a tell man from mi give him di money and mi caan even find him," Thompson said.
He claims when he or his girlfriend contact Newman, he does not accept their calls.
Newman told THE STAR that once a taxi operator had submitted money for a road license and requested it back, it would take 14 days after it was requested for it to be returned.
He added that he had contacted Thompson and told him to come to collect the sum but he was yet to turn up. However, Thompson claims that he has not received a call from Newman regarding collecting his money.
In an effort to get back his money, Thompson has taken out a summons which he has served on Newman for him to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court today.
