Man accused of raping wife freed
By BYRON MCDANIEL, Star Writer
WALDERSTON, MANCHESTER A MANCHESTER MAN who spent more than two years in custody on charges of gross indecency and rape allegedly committed against his wife, was freed along with his co-accused in the Manchester Circuit Court on Tuesday.
The accused men, Victor Cummings, 50, and 42-year-old Devon Walters, his next door neighbour, both from Porus, were found not guilty of committing the offences at the matrimonial home. The complainant's allegation to the court was that her husband, who is impotent, connived with Walters, who lives next door, to commit the acts on two consecutive nights in 2003, Valentine's Day on February 14 and the following day. She subsequently reported the matter to the police who arrested both men. Cummings was refused bail, while the co-accused, Walters, was bailed. The jury of seven found the men not guilty and they were subsequently freed by High Court Judge, Ingrid Mangatal who presided at the trial.
