TWO MEN REPORTEDLY involved in the murder of a taxi man and the sexual assault and robbery of a female were arrested on the Friendship main road in St. James recently.
The police have arrested Andrew Richards, 23, of Deans Lane, Montego Bay, and Phillip Grinnion, 17, of Albion, both in St. James, while dead is Paul Gooden, 36, of Bethel Town, Westmoreland.
According to police reports, at about 12:30 p.m., Gooden was driving a Toyota Camry motor car registered 9680 EB in the city with a female passenger aboard. Shortly after, two male passengers, Richards and Grinnion, came aboard the vehicle and asked to be taken to Hurlock District.
On reaching their destination, it is alleged that one of the men pulled a gun and opened fire hitting Gooden several times, killing him on the spot. The men then drove to Ramble Hill where the female passenger was sexually assaulted. She was then robbed of items of jewellery valued at approximately $280,000 by the men, who then drove off leaving her behind.
The car subsequently crashed at Burnett Bush and the men boarded a taxi-cab. The police who by then were trailing the men intercepted the cab.
Richards and Grinnion alighted from the car. A gun was pointed at the lawmen who opened fire. Grinnion and Richards were shot and injured. The weapon, a browning, semi-automatic pistol serial #245NZ53511 with five 9mm rounds of ammunition were taken from him.
The injured men were taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where they were treated and released into police custody. The Bureau of Special Investigation (BSI) has commenced an enquiry into the incident.
