TWO SECURITY GUARDS are being questioned by the police in connection with the theft of a large amount of money that they were transporting in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
The money was being transported in a car reportedly belonging to Atlas Security Company.
The police say the guards reportedly collected money from the Atlas Ocho Rios office and went into the RBTT bank to make drop offs. The police said that when the guards came out of the bank the car was gone.
The police were unable to say how the car was stolen without attracting the attention of the security guards who were transporting the money.
The police said they have recovered the car however the money, which could amount to millions of dollars, has not been found.
The two security guards, who were assigned to the vehicle, are being questioned.
Efforts to obtain a comment from Atlas as to how much money was taken were unsuccessful as the management personnel were said to be out of office.
This is the third incident in less than a year where money has been stolen from a vehicle transporting security guards.
In March, Harvey Green and Copeland Samuels were implicated in a robbery after they were a part of a team of four guards assigned to an armoured vehicle which was transporting money from Ocho Rios to Kingston. Reports are that the two men made off with more than $180 million.
And, in December last year, Luke Gilpin also known as Dwayne Whyte allegedly made off with $12.2 million after he reportedly stole the money from an armoured truck in Westmoreland. He was caught earlier this year.
