Complainant becomes accused in wounding case

THE TABLES WERE turned on Damion Hanson yesterday when Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle ordered that he be charged in a case in which he had been the complainant.

Reports are that on July 4, Damion Hanson and Oswald Reid were working as security guards at 4 Cunningham Avenue.

Hanson reportedly left to go to lunch at nearby Roosevelt Avenue about 4 p.m. Reid is said to have rode a bicycle to the restaurant and accused him of stealing 25 DVDs. A ratchet knife was used to stab Hanson in the left side of his abdomen.

Reid, however, told the Corporate Area Resident's Magistrate Court another story after pleading guilty with explanation. Charged with felonious wounding, Reid said they were watching a business place when Hanson left. He said he went to the guardhouse, where Hanson had stopped before leaving, and found that 25-30 CDs had gone missing. He said he confronted Hanson and a fight ensued in which he defended himself. He pointed to his hand and back where he said Hanson had inflected wounds.

R.M. Gayle set the case for mention on August 11 and ordered that Hanson also be charged for wounding.
