'Healing' for the land at Cinema II

Judy Jacobs performs at Heal Our Land, a gospel concert, held at Cinema Two, Dominica Drive, New Kingston on Saturday night. - winston sill

JUDY JACOBS SPOKE in tongues. Alvin Slaughter shared some of his life story. Stitchie was the Reggae Gospel Ambassador. Some audience members fell to their knees, while others spoke in foreign tongues and all had their hands pointed to the sky.

That was the gist of the 'Heal Our Land' gospel concert held at New Kingston's Cinema II on Saturday night.

Spiritual healing

Truth be told it was more an evangelistic meeting than a gospel concert, but the audience did not mind. It was truly a night when spiritual healing was the main desire.

The evangelism began with Stitchie, who proclaimed that 'Jesus is sweet and him just get sweeter everyday'. He told his audience that he was an ambassador and because he was an ambassador, he had diplomatic immunity as long as he kept to laws of the land, and that land was heaven. Performing Messenger, Gospel Reggae and Almighty High he added that God had supplied all his needs and took care of all his desires.

Adding to the evangelising was Alvin Slaughter. The very popular gospel singer spent more time testifying to the people, than singing, but his audience did not seem to mind. He told them that through all the storms in his life which included a drug addicted son and losing his job and his home while battling severe depression, God was with him - even when he could not see that.

When Slaughter did sing, he treated his audience to renditions of Rain Down, Move This Place and Shouts of Joy.

But not to be outdone was Judy Jacobs, who took evangelising to another level by speaking in tongues. After performing her very popular 'Days of Elijah, she started to really 'feel the spirit' and when she was through she told the audience, "God says Gabriel just broke through the heavens."

Some audience members began rolling in the aisles, while tears streamed down the faces of others.

Jacobs said that she felt the spirit of God "in this park" and called for those who had not yet developed a personal relationship with him to begin by coming forward. Several persons did so and those who already had that relationship with him also seemed to be moved.

When the concert ended, those who left seemed to have been healed or at the very least touched.
