Woman involved in car crash escapes prosecution

THE ST. ELIZABETH police are not considering bringing charges against a Kingston woman who crashed into a utility pole while transporting a 19-year-old man to hospital after he was struck by lightning on Sunday.

Police reports say Alethia Hamilton was transporting Donroy Smith to the hospital after he was struck by lightning, as he walked along the beach at Parottee district in the parish, when she crashed in a utility pole.

Smith reportedly lost consciousness after being struck and was placed in a Suzuki Grand Vitara, which Hamilton was driving. On reaching Crane main road in Black River, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle ran off the road and crashed into the pole which fell onto it. A passing motorist took Smith to the hospital where he died.

When contacted, the Black River Police said they were not contemplating bringing charges against Hamilton at this time as investigations were still ongoing.

They were unable to give a report on Hamilton's condition or if she was injured during the incident.
