'Perfect' disappointment inspires song

By TEINO EVANS Staff Reporter

Mr Perfect. - ian allen

IT WAS NOT the perfect experience for reggae/dancehall artiste Greg Rose, more popularly known as Mr. Perfect, when he recently attempted to acquire an American visa at the United States Embassy in Jamaica.

However, the disappointment of being refused an American visa has inspired Perfect to record a song about his experience, expressing his disgust. The song is entitled Amerimaka.

"The song was about my own personal experience that happened last April at the U.S. Embassy in Kingston. By right, I should have got it in the papers from that time, but the song wasn't out as yet. I wrote the song about two months after the incident," Perfect said.

No visa

In the song, Perfect lashes out against the tedious processing system that individuals have to endure only too often to be told the words, 'Sorry, sir, the visa I can't grant you.'

"Yuh got mi standing inna dis long line for a very, very long time, a tell mi fi sign up, sign up, script, no join up, this way, that way, until di time up, and after all that I've been through, guh through yuh blasted interview, your remarks were like sorry sir the visa I can't grant you," Perfect sings.

Perfect, who now has a video out for the song, says he has been getting some good feedback, as people like it and may even be able to identify with the sentiments.

Good reception

"Mi a get a good reception from the song, very good feedback, everybody love it and can identify wid it. It is even being played in the U.S. and the video a gwaan promote it," he said.

Perfect, however, says he intends to return to the embassy to try to get his U.S. visa, as he had received requestes for shows in the United States.

"As a result of me not getting the visa, is about 13 shows I had to cancel there. That was very painful, but hopefully next year mi can guh again fi mi visa an get through. It's not like I was in any wrongs, but just some little problems with my father who had filed for me when I was younger, but he didn't follow through and those files were still open and immigration laws say you cannot travel while being filed for," Perfect explained.

A wish for better luck may be required when Perfect next visits the U.S. Embassy.
