Pleased with international progress



Assassin

DEEJAY ASSASSIN SAYS he is pleased with the international progress of dancehall music, as it has been attracting a lot of interest.

"We have captured the overseas interest, so it is up to us to produce the material to keep them interested," Assassin said.

The deejay said that now that the door was opened he was hoping that artistes and other persons in the local music industry will be able to step up to the plate. "For the last ten years everybody a seh dem waan fi tek it (the music) to the next level. Now we are there, let's see if we are prepared to handle it," he said.

THE STAR'S ARTISTE of the month, Assassin, is recruiting students 14 years and under for his School Infiltration Essay Competition. Each student will be required to write a 200-word essay on the topic: How important is education for an artiste in the music industry?

Five lucky students in first to third forms will receive a scholarship grant of $10,000 towards their school expenses. Entries should be submitted to THE STAR, 7 North Street, Kingston no later than Friday, September 23.
