KINGSTON, JAMAICA, CMC
A MAN ACCUSED of defrauding Jamaican artiste Judy Mowatt of more than US$20,000 (J$1.2 million) pleaded guilty when he appeared in a Corporate Area court on Wednesday.
Gerald Pusey, 37, will be sentenced on September 30.
According to his attorney Antoinette Haughton, her client is more than willing to repay the money to Mowatt and is in the process of selling some of his assets to repay the money.
Haughton explained that Pusey lent the money to small business operators and did not benefit personally from the transaction.
The police report that in September 2004, Pusey, who operated an investment firm, received the cheque for US$20,000 from Mowatt to invest and he promised an interest rate of up to 30 per cent.
However, investigators reported that when Mowatt requested the principal plus interest, which would have matured in April this year, the investment banker gave her several cheques, which were dishonoured.
