Cedric Titus score big 5-0 daCosta victory

By ANTHONY DAVIS, Star Writer

CEDRIC TITUS RECORDED their first victory of the 2005 ISSA Pepsi/J.N. daCosta Cup rural area school boy's football season, with a 5-0 thrashing of lowly Aabuthnott Gallimore at Cedric Titus on Wednesday.

Five different Cedric Titus players got their names on the scoresheet. Capitalising on very poor defending Cedric Titus took the lead in the fifth minute through Sharvar Campbell.

Damin Williams (13th), Adrian Golding (15th), and Karlton Drake (45th) made it 4-0 at half time. A superb strike by Girvent Dixon from 35 yards completed the scoring in the 70th minute. Despite playing a man down after Shavar Campbell was shown the red card in the 31st minute for dangerous play Cedric Titus kept control throughout and but for poor finishing the scoreline could have been a lot greater as Aabuthnott Gallimore did not really come to play.

Short preparation

"Initially we didn't plan to enter the competition, it was the week that school opened the principal decided that we would play and we actually prepared the team in less than two weeks. We are playing just for experience and exposure so the result isn't our main concern," said Patrick Nam, sports master for Aabuthnott Gallimore.

Winning coach Wade Crawford was happy with victory but still saw room for improvement.

"Basically I'm thankful for our first three points and five goals but play was sloppy. After scoring three goals in the opening 15 minutes we went to sleep and started to play like our opponents.

We will have to change team strategy for next game." In other Group D games Ocho Rios and York Castle ended 2-2 while Marcus Garvey and Brown's Town ended 1-1.
